Milestone at the LeopoldQuartier

Milestone at Europe's first timber-hybrid urban quarter - the LeopoldQuartier in Vienna: the last of the 670 timber columns has now been successfully installed on the OFFICE component.

Our timber construction experts have precisely coordinated the “Lego for adults”. All the timber columns, timber-concrete composite ceilings and reinforced concrete beams are now fully connected and form the stable skeleton support structure of the office floors.

A total of 6,600 m3 of wood will be used in the ten-storey OFFICE office building and the 253 apartments in the LIVING building, thus binding 6,600 tons of CO₂ in the long term. This includes 20,000 m2 of wood-concrete composite ceilings, 700 glulam columns, 20,000 m2 of cross-laminated timber elements and 7,000 m2 of timber frame exterior walls.

The clever combination of timber, reinforced concrete and steel makes optimum use of the strengths of all materials. And the timber hybrid construction method used shows what modern timber construction can achieve today. Because wood and concrete get along perfectly.

Construction is scheduled for completion in spring 2026. The LeopoldQuartier is being built by the PORR Group on behalf of UBM Development. A big thank you to the team on site and to our partner Oberndorfer Betonfertigteile for their excellent cooperation!
