The office of the European Patent Office on Rennweg in Vienna is another example of how sustainable construction with wood can be successful. Together with the PORR Group, our experts from the timber construction and sustainability departments have transformed the building into a modern, climate-positive office building in timber-steel-concrete hybrid construction during the tendering, awarding and construction supervision phases.
Gutting: Dismantling down to the structurally load-bearing shell of the building.
Structural strengthening: Reinforcement of the existing load-bearing structure.
Wooden façade: Curtain-type wooden façade elements for a modern appearance.
Integrated photovoltaic modules: A pre-greyed timber façade with solar elements.
Pergola construction: Open supporting structure made of glass and photovoltaic modules.
The result: an office building that produces more energy than it consumes thanks to its own green electricity generation - and is therefore CO₂-negative. Confirmation of the desired BREEAM “Outstanding” and EMAS certification is still pending. We at pde are already proud to have played a key role in the realization of this project.
