CircCon research project

As part of the CircCon (Circular Construction) research project, we are using pilot projects to further develop the EU taxonomy-compliant refurbishment of existing buildings. The aim is to evaluate and improve the applicability of the taxonomy criteria for refurbishment projects.

On behalf of the FFG - Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH, under the project coordination of the OFI - Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology and together with AEE Intec, the first year of research has now been successfully completed.

A model with data

Within the first year, we developed our own standardized integral planning process. This enables us to precisely analyze the building stock to be renovated and develop a sound planning basis that covers all EU taxonomy targets. Our experts in the fields of BIM and sustainability integrate the required sustainability parameters into BIM models. Based on these enriched models, a building resource passport is created and the properties are classified in terms of their energy efficiency and the materials used.

The reference buildings come from different eras and serve as a model for the renovation of similar buildings throughout Austria. The projects were selected by the participating partners from the real estate industry.

Another two years of exciting reference projects will now follow. We look forward to making the refurbishment of existing buildings even more sustainable and future-proof and to providing further updates in the course of the research project.
