Sustainable construction is increasingly in focus in today's building projects. The choice of the right building materials plays a decisive role here, as these influence the entire life cycle of a building. Here, wood, as a domestic, renewable and recyclable material, proves to be the ideal building material.
It is not surprising that public tenders and competitions are also increasingly looking for ecologically sustainable solutions. This is because public building owners are taking on a role model function, such as in school construction. One example: the new elementary school in the Böhlerleben neighborhood, Meerbusch. A wood hybrid building designed by our design team around Fabian Kirchner. Particularly as a hybrid construction, wood offers very good application possibilities, even with increased requirements in the areas of sound insulation and fire protection.
The choice of building material also influences the schedule in the construction process. Timber components can be manufactured as large-format building elements detached from the construction site. They are then precisely assembled on site. This enables construction to progress quickly.
We are also increasingly using wood in our planning. Examples of this are designs in cities such as Basel, Zossen, Wismar and Meerbusch. And there are more and more.
Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in the competitive construction industry. With our experts, we are optimally equipped:
"In the course of my work on competitions and public tenders, I have noticed that the aspects of sustainable planning and construction are becoming increasingly important. For me, timber construction has proven to be an effective means of meeting the increasing requirements. As pde, we are ideally prepared for this task with the combined knowledge of our specialist departments."

Recognition in the realization competition "New elementary school Wissingen in Bissendorf"
The work of our design department and Simons & Hinze Landschaftsarchitekten was awarded recognition in the Europe-wide, restricted design competition. Fabian Kirchner and his team came fourth out of 178 applicants.
The concept for the two-storey timber construction, which is meanderingly grouped around old trees and forms courtyards and retreats, was developed in collaboration with the pde Technical Building Services and Fire Protection departments as well as the PORR Group's Timber Construction department. Following 3rd place in the competition "New Freiham Industrial Estate", recognition in the competition "New Fire Station and Administration Building, Hanseatic City of Wismar" and 1st place in the competition "New Primary School in the Böhlerleben Quarter", this is now the fourth TOP 4 placement in a row for our design department.
